Federica's Year Reflection

My Year in Grade 5

My year in grade 5.....

This year it was the best out of all! I enjoyed many things but I'm happy that this year I spend ed it with all my friends in 5K. My teacher Mrs. Kasal helped me a lot in every subject. I improved and I'm proud of all the work I did.
I learned to never give up and to always keep on trying. My projects were all very well organized and when I had to talk in front of a big group of people, I took courage and I spoke.
I made new friends. I learned that I needed to work  hard if I wanted to achieve my goals. Trough out the year I learned many important things I will need to know for the future. She also taught us some ways we can succeed in university. In 5th grade I have had a wonderful time especially because I had the best teacher ever Mrs. Kasal.

Responses for parents:

  1. What is your favorite discipline of this year and why?
  • This year I have had 2  most favorite subjects. One of them is math because Mrs. Kasal always made it fun and because I was able to solve harder problems. Another reason why I like it is because every day I learned something new and that helped finish my work quicker and I even got time to do my homework.
  • My second favorite discipline is writing because this years lessons in writing they were more clear and I liked how my teacher took her time to explain everything I needed to know to go ahead and write. Also when we finished a unit we would present our writing in different ways and we would even have parties.

     2. Where do you think you need to improve and which strategy to implement?

  • I think I need to improve on is finish my assigned work on time.
  • I'm going to do that by: If I finish my homework early I can work a bit on the work I have not completed and I can also do that by setting a time and date which will help me to work faster to achieve my goal.
    3. What was your goal for this year and what did you do to get it?
  • This year I had 2 goals which were: Keeping my desk organized and getting my math tests correct. For the 1st goal what I did was every day when I took something out or put something back in my desk I would put it in in a neat way and check that any papers were not sticking out and that any papers were crumbled up.
  • I achieved the other goal by practicing math problems at home and I tried to challenge my self with harder problems and in math class I would ask help if I needed. I also finished my work on time and when I had a bunch of time left I would go on Mathletics and practice different things on the unit I was learning. After all that preparing I finally got my math tests correct.

Reading:

In reading I think I have improved because at the beginning of the year I was at really low level which, was not the reading level  that is fit for a 5th grader. Well what could I do? I asked my self; I read more harder books, I read for more time and I read every night before going to bed, in the morning and in the afternoon when I came home from school. When Mrs. Kasal tested me again she was impressed from how much I had improved. She told me that I could pronounce words that previous years had been hard for me. Then what she did was.... she tested me on a higher level. It was just perfect. In one of the units in reading I realized that that was going to be my favorite one for the rest of my life.I wrote stories and read many books. The genre was Fantasy! I love it. I am proud of my self.
P.S. I got tested a week ago and my teacher said I had moved up 6 levels in reading.

Writing:

5th grade writing is sooooooooo FUN! One of my favorite topic was the fantasy. I also like the Journalism. I can pretty much say that in writing I really improved a lot because at the beginning of the year I did not include very long sentences for example: "She licked my face." Now I learned that if you want to attract your reader's attention you have to use more details for example: "She liked my face like crazy, my face felt like someone had just poured a bucket of water on my head. I knew she had missed me a lot."

Math:

This year math was one of my favorite subjects after art(obviously) and I really enjoy it. I knew many things from the years before but some things were challenging and it took me a bit of time to understand them. My teacher  and my parents help me a lot trough out this year in math, to help me become a better mathematician. I got my tests all correct, when I knew the answer to a question I would raise up my hand so Mrs. Kasal could call on me. Math class this year was the best! It was challenging but I learned quickly.

Science:

In science I like the project of the biome. I am able to come up with an idea that helped me and my partner create a feature that the animal had. I worked hard on the posters and made sure I had included a good amount of information. I practice talking in front of someone and got feedback I should had worked on. I practiced hard so I knew what to say when a person came up to me and would have asked me" what is your biome?" I would have known the answer.

Social Studies:

I have just started my unit in Social Studies and I really like it. First I chose one of the category
and I picked transportation I had to come up with 3 good questions to research about. Research is the thing that takes concentration and a good amount of time. After all of that work I could finally, with all my information make my end of Social Studies project. I worked hard and never waste time. When I want to do the best job I need a lot of time and concentration. When I want to present my work the best way I need a huge amount of things.

Citizenship - CORE VALUES:

I think that one some of the core values I showed this year are:

  1. Creativity
  2. Perseverance
  3. Integrity
  4. Respect
  5. Responsibility
  6. Courage
  7. and a bit of Compassion
I think that I show creativity in art class and also when I have to finish projects.
I show perseverance when I am stuck on a math problem and I keep on trying.
Integrity I show it when the teacher is having a meeting with one of my class mate and instead of making noise I do what I am soppost to do.
I respect others by looking and listening to their ideas.
Every afternoon I do my assigned homework.
I always the first one that wants to try new things.
Every day I follow the core values.

Most Challenging:

This year I think that some of the math questions were a bit challenging at first but, I managed to solve them and after someone explained them to me they were really easy; you just needed to think more.
I think there might have been other thinks that were challenging but it is really hard to remember them.

Most enjoyable:

This year in 5th grade I have had many enjoyable moments! All of them have been really enjoyable because I spend them with my friends in 5K.

  • Doing the biome project with my friend Hoda
  • Having a dance party after fill trips
  • Funny times: when someone from the class did or said something ridiculous
  • Kid's Day
This year I had many fun times but I can't list them all, it would take me up a few weeks or even months. This is what I have to tell you every day in 5K it was a new adventure filled with fun moments.

Most Proud of:

One of the things I am most proud of is: The Math Test!
This year I got half of my math tests all correct ( not to brag about) and so my parents and I were really proud.
Also I am really proud of all the projects I have done for example: The reading project, The science project, All the writing stories and more in my specialist classes.

Most Growth:

One of my growth is on my MAP TESTS. I improved by a lot of points and my scores where higher.
Another think I improved on was my writing: at the beginning of the year in my writing I did not  include many details and objectives, now I add many more details and transition.
